"Mom, What's That Sound" written by Lisa Baker is a delightful children's book that tackles a unique and important theme -the world of sound perception through the ears of a young boy who is bothered by and scared of the loud noises around his house. This charming story is enhanced by simple, hand-drawn illustrations by Lisa Baker herself, and a rhythmic, rhyming tone that effectively conveys the experience of what loud household appliances might sound like from a child's perspective. The adventure Lisa Baker takes the reader on as the boy travels around his house, trying to unravel the mystery behind the loud sounds that surround him is enjoyable. As he explores each room, he encounters a variety of intriguing sounds, all creatively depicted through the mind of a young child who may hear these sounds and fear the source of them. The author's descriptive and rhythmic verses draw you in for a guessing game of what makes that kind of sound in a house. The rhyming narrative adds a lyrical quality to the book, making it an enjoyable read-aloud experience. What a fantastic creative idea for a book. As a Pediatric Audiologist and owner of ListenHEAR, who specializes in Auditory Processing Disorders including hyperacusis and Misophonia, books like these are great for discussions about loud noises and sounds, especially those that might cause fear or pain. I would also recommend this book for parents of children with hearing aids or cochlear implants that sometimes have difficulty identifying the source of a sound. Challenge your children to a guessing game as you read along trying to guess what appliance or object in a house makes the sounds, like a dragon breathing fire in a house. When's the last time you went on an adventure around your house to listen to all the sounds and noises? I encourage you to make a fun game out of your household noises, too. This is a great book for young children, and I am happy to have it on my shelf to read with my patients."

"Lisa Baker’s second children’s book, Gertrude the Cow Gets in Trouble Somehow, is a heartwarming tale that takes the reader through a series of unfortunate events befalling Gertrude. We first see that Gertrude loves to play with friends, and “one of their favorite things to do as they gather, is to play hairstylist and pretend to wash their hair and lather.” She soon learns that cows can get a disease that effects their bangs—and of course this sends Gertrude into a tizzy throughout much of the book trying to stay ahead of the effects of this ailment. Illustrator Corinne Grant does a fabulous job of painting heartfelt images that show Gertrude and her friends working through their troubles and eventually overcoming them. There is a good lesson here for kids, especially in this digital age—talk to your parents or trusted adults about issues of concern first before making rash decisions. Gertrude the Cow Gets In Trouble Somehow...a great reminder that sometimes it’s necessary to follow your instincts and break from the herd."
In All of Your Days Have You Seen the Ways an Animal Plays an Instrument?
" If you were a fan of Raffi, particularly his song “Down by the Bay,” then you will love this book. Author Lisa Baker, and illustrator Joy Baik, have teamed up to create a classic story where whimsical illustrations bring the reader through delightful rhyming scenes of animals playing musical instruments. Children of all ages will appreciate In All of Your Days Have you Seen the Ways an Animal Plays an Instrument for the vivid colors and funny juxtapositions of creatures making music while being in, or close to, their natural habitat. This is the perfect book to help introduce kids to unique musical instruments, and perhaps even some interesting animals. After all, when was the last time “while making risotto, did you ever see a buffalo, sipping espresso while playing the zufolo?” A bonus feature is the glossary in the back, and if you are like us, it will help kick-start your own animal/musical adventures as you learn about the animals in the book! This is a truly joyous read—the kind of book that after reading sticks in the mind’s-eye of parents and children for a lifetime.

My first book was a finalist in the International Book Awards in the Children's Book Gift and Novelty Section.
The Page Turner Awards is a 3-step award system. The books made it through two rounds and I'm very proud of that! From over 200 entries, whittled down to only one book per category, I think my books stood out among some wonderful books. I placed one book in the children's picture book category and the other in the poetry category.
At the moment, while Lisa and her husband are traveling the world, she is only available for virtual author visits. Not only will the students enjoy hearing her read one of her books, but they can learn geography by finding out where she is in the world at that moment.
